LIMA — A Lima man was to be arraigned this morning in Allen County Common Pleas Court for biting the finger of a city policeman. So severe was the bite suffered by Patrolman Kelly Ricker that amputation of the finger was considered a possibility in the days and weeks following the incident, according to court records.

Richard Roby, 33, was indicted by the March session of the local grand jury on charges of felonious assault of a police officer, a first-degree felony, and domestic violence, a misdemeanor of the first degree, as the result of an altercation that occurred on Feb. 3.

According to court documents, police were dispatched that morning at approximately 3:30 a.m. to a residence at 741 W. Spring St., Lima, in response to the report of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, police found Sandra Jackson, Roby’s live-in girlfriend, who said Roby was upset about a crying child in the home. The pair argued, Jackson told police, and he then grabbed her around the throat and threatened to strike her. Some time later she was able to escape and call police.
