Mothers Against Drunk Driving of Allen, Putnam, and Hardin Counties kicked off their 2017 Tie One on for Safety red ribbon campaign. Their goal is to remind the community of the dangers of drinking and driving. Lieutenant Tim Grigsby, Commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lima Post, says the ribbons offer a chance to educate people on the dangers of impaired driving and what they can do to avoid it.
"It ignites a conversation and that's what needs to happen," says Grigsby. "Not just with law enforcement professionals or people that have been affected by drunk driving crashes, by everybody. I'll drive through town and a lot of people will see my marked patrol car with a red ribbon on it and so that will start to spur questions."
For MADD coordinator Pam Styer, the ribbons act as a reminder to those who know the meaning behind them.
